Call Me!

This is going to be one of those gushing posts.

It happens.

I love and adore both of my daughters. The four-year-old Wee One often gets more "air time," so to speak, here on Feisty, but that is largely due to her age and her antics. She's just damn funny.

The twelve-year-old Sweet One (or Smart One as my buddy David has dubbed her) is a bit more reserved, in addition to being significantly (in child years) older than Wee One. She has been through that antics stage and transformed into a thoughtful and articulate young lady. I love them both with all my heart.

Over the weekend, Sweet One hosted the 25 Word Challenge and did a fantastic job! In the comments following the end of the story, she and I went back and forth a bit and it struck me how much the manner in which we interact has changed with the technology. She and I still talk to one another face-to-face, but a part of our daily communication also takes the form of emails and phone calls.

I have no doubt, once school starts and she begins traveling with the band, basketball team, and tennis team I will break down and get her a mobile phone so I can give myself some peace of mind when she is away from me. At that point, we will probably be text messaging, too.

The bottom line, I am most delighted with the simple fact we are communicating.

We are also sharing common interests. After her hosting of the challenge, Sweet One has already informed me if I need her to guest-post here on Feisty, she's available. I can hear it now, she’s setting me up to ask for a blog of her own.

As to Wee One, I shudder to think what form of communication will come into play by the time she is independently mobile. I think I shall just have her fashioned with an ankle bracelet/cuff and monitor her through a satellite GPS system. Something tells me these years with her will not be so pleasant.

I think you should set Sweet One up with a blogspot account and let her have at it...monitored of course!

I think it would be a great idea for her to have her own blog. She seems to be a very creative writer (just like her mom!) It would be fun to see what she blogs about.

I'm not sure how Blogspot works, but at diaryland.com you can start up a blog for free.

Go for it!

Nothing like good old fashioned burlap sacks. Dress Wee One in one of those, and she's guaranteed to find less trouble. For a few moments anyway...

I hereby officially invite Sweet One to guest blog on my site, whenever she wishes. I don't know if that's preferable to her having a blog of her own just yet, but if it is, I'm good with it. My blog's safe territory, anyway. : ) Let me know what you think, Mom.

I'm going to go with what everyone else says and say to give her a personal blog. She sounds mighty intelligent and she might like being able to share her thougts with the world.

She might like a little privacy too...perhaps you could pick up a nice paper journal so she can document her personal, private thoughts as well.

Probably better off with a paper journal for Sweet One, but still... she did a great job on the challenge. I wish the comments had been working before I had to leave.

Wee One... I'm laughing picturing how things will go with her. Not laughing at you or her, just laughing with you. ;)

Coming from a former middle school teacher, this age is really hard on girls. (I think boys get hit harder in 8th and 9th grades). The fact that you two have means of communication beyond face to face is great, and will probably be a huge benefit in years to come. The blogspot account is an excellent idea. The blog is really the modern day form of the diary, right? And how many of us had/have those?
